College of the Carmo

Situated in the Street of the Sofia, the construction of this college started for rollback of 1540 under the initiative of D.Frei Clean Baltasar. The 1597 church is dated of and claustro of 1600. Church of S. Tiago

Church of Stª. Joust
Situated in the Street of the Sofia, it was initiated in 1710. Substítuiu the medieval temple of Justa Saint, whose remaining portions still if can see in the Place of fetichism of the Grass.
The flat façade and, of three floors, with two pilasters that divide it in the direction of the height in three plans. In retábulo come of the old church would frontaria exists one.
The very simple inward and; in the chapel-mor one is distinguished retábulo baroque, of the beginning of the reign of D.João V. the retábulos of the lateral chapels is also baroque, of century XVIII.

Garden of the Sleeve

Located in the backs of Santa Cruz this construction meets renascentista. Previously, this set, known then for Source of the Sleeve, was placed in the center of one of the three claustros of Santa Cruz.
João of Ruão traced the plan of the workmanship, being the workmanship of would in charge of pedraria Pero de Évora, Diogo Fernandes and Fernão Luis. Of the workmanships of he would sing was responsible Jerónimo Alfonso.

Monastery of Stª. Cruz
Located in full decrease city dweller, this edificio is clearly the most important monument of Coimbra, not only artisticamente as for its historical value.

Its construction had beginning 28 July of 1131 under the sponsorship of D. Afonso Enriques. It was located outside of the defensive walls, close to the natural Islamic border that was Rio Mondego. When entering in the edificio the choir-high one is risen under our heads, of the authorship of Diogo de Castilho, with renascentista decoration of Juão de Ruão. Some chapels of seculos XIV and XV confide in the lateral façades, deserving have detached of the Mártires of Morocco. Equally deserving of attention, they are the set of baroque historiados tiles, in blue, dated of century XVIII. Worthy of a intent and delayed look it is the púlpito. This, in the opinion of the specialists, constitutes the notable more workmanship of Portuguese renascentista sculpture. Its author was Nicholas Chanterene who executed it between 1518 and 1521.

In the choir-high one, dated of century XVIII, an imponent orgão baroque of the authorship of Manuel meets Benito Gomes Herrera. In the chapel-mor we find a magnificent altar baroque, but the main reason of interest of the headboard inhabits in the tombs that are inhabited there. There they lie D. Afonso Enriques and D. Sancho I. To the construction of these tombs they had been on names as: Diogo de Castilho, João of Castilho, Nicholas Chanterene, Diogo Francisco, Pero Anes, Diogo Fernandes and João Fernandes.

Relatively to the Claustro of Silence, Pires knows itself that this was construido between 1517 and 1522, under the route of arquitecto regal Marcos. For claustro some dependences confide: Chapel of Jesus, Room of the Chapter, Coro-Alto, Refectory.

Palace of Justice
It is installed in a edificio that retraces to century XVI: the College of S. Tomás. Suffering deep alterations to the long one from the centuries, the edificio had its initial construction in 1547. Claustro was initiated in 1555 under the prompt of Diogo de Castilho.

First the great remodelling of the edificio occurred in century XVIII e, the end of century XIX, was customized the residence of the Condes of the Ameal under the prompt of arquitecto Silva Pinto. Another remodelling would have of it to confer its current aspect, aquando of its adaptation the Palace of Justice.




Gate of Barbacã- Arco de Almedina

One meets together exactly to the sidewalk, a little below of the Arc of Almedina, and is a dated construction of century XV. The renascentista sculpture that exhibits is of the type of the outputs of the workshop of Juão de Ruão. This gate was ordered to construct for a trader of the city.
